Pulmonary Rehabilitation
The Pulmonary Rehab program at Sparrow Health System combines exercise training, education and
emotional support to return a person with chronic lung disease to their highest functional capacity
and improve their quality of life. This individualized program addresses the difficult challenges of
chronic lung disease, including shortness of breath, reduced energy levels, decreased strength/endurance,
fear, anxiety, decreased self-esteem, depression and isolation.
Under the direction of a board certified pulmonologist, our highly trained team of pulmonary rehab
therapists provides progressive exercise, education, self-management training and psychosocial support to
meet the specific needs and goals of each participant. We provide a supportive environment for learning about
the medical condition affecting the lungs and offer strategies to assist in coping with lung disease.
Involvement of the family/support persons is encouraged to maximize understanding and enhance compliance to
lifestyle changes.
