What is Coronary Cardiac Computerized Tomographic Angiography?
A Coronary CTA is a noninvasive heart-imaging test currently undergoing rapid
development and evaluation. The study is used to determine the presence of either fatty
deposits or calcium deposits developing in the coronary arteries. The coronary arteries
supply blood to the heart muscle. If left untreated, these areas of build-up, called
plaques, can cause heart muscle disease. Heart muscle disease can lead to symptoms of
fatigue, shortness of breath, and chest pain. Blockages in these arteries can result in
heart attacks and sudden death.
Your doctor uses the cardiac CT to evaluate:
- the coronary arteries
- the heart muscle
- the pulmonary veins
- the sac around the heart (pericardium)
Types of Gated Cardiac Exams:
- Thoracic Aorta CT angiogram with possible Heart Valve assessment
- Coronary Artery CT angiogram
- Post Coronary artery bypass CT angiogram
- Left or right ventricular function study
- Pulmonary Vein Mapping
