Bronchial Cytology

Requirements:

• Container: clean sterile large enough to allow addition of fixative.
• Specimen: submit fresh (unfixed) bronchial wash, brush, tracheal aspirate, Wang Needle biopsy immediately after collection to the SRL Cytology department. If the specimen cannot be transported immediately the specimen must be:
• Refrigerated: may be kept 12–24 hours.
• Storage: refrigerate.
• Performed: Monday – Friday
• Reported: 2 business days.
• Reference Range: Narrative report.
• Methodology: Microscopy.
