Cytomegalic Inclusion Disease (CMV) Cytology

Test includes screening for CMV plus routine cytology.

Requirements:

• Container: Clean sterile container large enough to allow addition of fixative
• Specimen: submit 20-50ml of fresh (unfixed) urine, sputum, or bronchial samples (min. 5ml) and transport immediately to SRL Cytology department. If the specimen cannot be transported immediately the specimen must be:
• Refrigerated; or preserved in 30ml Cytolyt solution. Note: Do not use this method to preserve the specimen when other tests such as culture must be performed from the same container
• Storage: refrigerate
• Patient information: Give clinical history and diagnosis, including immuno-compromised status
