Esophageal Cytology

Requirements:

• Container: Clean container large enough to allow for the addition of fixative
• Specimen: submit 20–30 ml of fresh (unfixed) esophageal wash (min. 10ml) and/or brushing; transport immediately to SRL Cytology department. If the specimen cannot be transported immediately the specimen must be:
• refrigerated
• Patient Information: include anatomic site, clinical history and diagnosis
• Performed: Monday – Friday
• Reported: 2 business days
• Reference range: Narrative report
• Methodology: Microscopy
