Sparrow Health System's Rehabilitation Services Department offers an Adaptive Golf Program for anyone
who has a physical disability from stroke, head injury, amputation, spinal cord injury, arthritis,
multiple sclerosis, joint replacement, or other musculoskeletal condition.
Participants can learn or relearn the game of golf, improve strength and skills and gain self-confidence.
The program is supported by the United States Golf Association (USGA) and Michigan State University(MSU).
Spring and Summer Clinics take place at Forest Akers East Golf Course at Michigan State University.

Who will be helping me?
Each participant will be paired appropriately into groups with trained therapists to assist them during
their golf game.

What will I learn?
Participants in this clinic will learn:
- Mechanics of golf swings
- Balance and swing
- Use of adaptive golf techniques
- Use of adaptive golf equipment

- Bob Grondsma, adaptive golf instructor, from Grand Rapids, MI
- John Chapin, adaptive equipment and club design specialist
- MSU golf pros trained in adaptive golf instruction
- Sparrow Health System therapists and volunteers trained in adaptive golf techniques
Should I bring my own clubs or equipment?
Yes, if you have your own clubs. If not, we will have clubs available to use during the clinic at no charge.
Golf carts, adaptive golf carts, and adaptive golf equipment also will be available at no charge.

Located on the corner of Mt. Hope and S. Harrison Road, East Lansing
The scheduled assisted golf play days are spent with actual time on the course. Each participant will be
paired appropriately into groups with therapists, golf pros, and volunteers. All participants have carts, and
are scheduled for an 8 am tee time.
Once registered, a confirmation letter will be sent to you. In addition, you will receive a questionnaire,
evaluation, and photo release form.
