Inpatient Rehabilitation: Patient & Family Information
If you are accepted into the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program, you will be admitted when your physician feels
you are medically stable. Your admission will be arranged through the rehabilitation coordinator.
The following information will give you an idea of what to expect while you are on the Rehabilitation Unit.
You and your family are active members of the Rehabilitation Team. An individual treatment program is
developed with you following an evaluation of your personal goals, your family's involvement, and your
discharge environment. Your support, commitment, and cooperation with the therapists and the rehabilitation
nursing staff contribute significantly to your recovery. It is expected that families observe and participate
in therapies.
What To Bring
When you are admitted to the Rehabilitation Unit you are encouraged to bring street clothes and undergarments
to wear daily.

Sweat suits or other sports clothes are most appropriate. A comfortable pair of shoes and
a sweater or coat for recreation and community outings may also be needed. It is your responsibility to
have these garments laundered at home or you may launder them yourself on the nursing unit. Please bring
eyeglasses, dentures, and hearing aids to the hospital if needed. Label your belongings with your name.
If you bring your own radio, electric razor, or any other electrical appliance, it must be checked by the
engineering department prior to use.
Sparrow Hospital does not assume responsibility for loss or damage of valuables, clothing, or other personal
items. We strongly urge you to send any valuables home with a member of your family. If this is not
possible, the valuables may be secured in the hospital safe.
