The goal of the sexual assault nurse examiner program is to provide free coordinated, timely, comprehensive and compassionate care to pediatric and adult victims of sexual assault. The SANE program is available 24 hours a day.
SANE program nurses work collaboratively with police, prosecutors, child protective services and community advocacy services to provide the best and most appropriate care.
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Definition: A sexual assault nurse examiner is a registered nurse specially trained to provide care to sexual assault patients. The sexual assault nurse examiner conducts medical forensic examinations and can serve as an expert witness.
