Sparrow Specialty's Medically Complex Patient Program is managed by a board certified internist and is designed
for those patients having multi-system involvement or failures and is guided by disease specific clinical
pathways and indicators researched by a consortium of experts.
The Medically Complex Patient Program provides comprehensive rehabilitation therapies to help build our patients'
strength and stamina, while treating and managing their medical needs. This enables them to progress to other
levels of care, such as acute and sub-acute rehabilitation, day rehabilitation or outpatient rehabilitation.

Progress through the medical staff-approved clinical pathways is monitored for variances from the treatment
plan at specific intervals to optimize medical and functional outcomes. The ultimate goal is to help patients
return to their home or community and achieve the best life possible.
The pre-admission assessment is supplemented by a thorough interdisciplinary clinical assessment to identify
care and treatment paths for clinical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, immune deficiencies, endocrine
disorders, infectious processes, renal insufficiency, and surgical recovery. Interventions and services focus on
the goal of returning the patient to optimal physiological and psychological functioning. Specific areas
addressed may include: disease management, medication regime, nutrition, fluid and electrolyte balance,
cardiopulmonary stability, tolerance and endurance, behavioral, cultural and social factors.
