Sparrow Specialty Hospital Medical Staff

Cynthia S. Boynton, M.D.
Medical Director

Dr. Boynton graduated magna cum laude from Wright State University, where she was also a Presdient's Club Scholar. She received her MS in Biochemistry from Michigan State University, and graduated from the College of Human Medicine where she also completed her residency. When raising her own family precluded specializing in OB/Gyn, she chose Internal Medicine. She is also the Medical Director of Hospice of Lansing.

Rafael A. Javier, M.D.
Medical Director for Dialysis

Dr. Javier graduated cum laude from the University of the Philippines, where he also completed medical school. He served his internship at Weiss Memorial in Chicago and his residency at Henry Ford Hospital. He chose to specialize in Nephrology because "kidneys are the most fascinating organ system". He is involved in the American Society of Nephrology and is the Lansing Chair of the National Kidney Foundation.

Anne E. Missavage, M.D.
Medical Director for Wounds

Dr. Missavage graduated summa cum laude from the University of Michigan, then Wayne State University Medical School, where she completed her residency and was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Fraternity. She decided to specialize in surgery, then patients with wounds because "wound patients need optimization of nutritional support, infection control, surgical debridement, physical therapy and nursing to recover". Dr. Missavage ran the burn unit in Sacramento, California for 10 years before coming to Michigan.

Michael E. Burnett, D.O.
Medical Director for Respiratory

Dr. Burnett obtained his BS in Biology from Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas and graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He interned at Garden City Osteopathic Hospital, served his residency at Providence Hospital and a fellowship at Sinai Hospital in Detroit. He decided to specialize in Pulmonary Medicine because he was so impressed by his mentors.

Amit Ghose, M.D.
Co-Chief of Staff

Dr. Ghose graduated from the University of Calcutta, where he also completed medical school and received the Certificate of Merit in Forensic Medicine. He performed his residencies at British Health Care Trusts, Salisbury General Infirmary and Thanet Health Care Trust, all in the UK and at Michigan State University. Dr. Ghose decided to specialize in Internal Medicine because of his interests in primary care, diabetes, cardiology, hematology and oncology. He teaches at MSU; and is presently serving as AAPI Lansing Chapter President, on the the Board of Trustees, Chair of Credentials Committee and Chair of Pand T Committee, all at IRMC. He is licensed in the US, UK and India.

James Haering, D.O.
Co-Chief of Staff

Dr. Haering received his BS in Microbiology from Michigan State University and graduated from MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine where he currently serves as an Associate Professor. He interned in Fort Bliss, Texas at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center. He then served four years as Chief Flight Surgeon at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky and two years as Brigade Surgeon at Blanchfield Army Hospital in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Dr. Haering decided to specialize in Internal Medicine because medical mysteries fascinate him.
