Sports Medicine is a sub-specialty of Orthopedics designed to keep athletes fit, healthy — and in the game. Sparrow offers a host of programs for athletes at all levels, from youth games through professional sports:
Primary care physicians trained in Sports Medicine specialize in the prevention and treatment of sports-related injuries. Sparrow conducts Fall Injury Clinics providing accurate assessment of injuries, plus treatment, to limit time spent away from the game. Our physicians provide Sports Physicals and together with Athletic Trainers, Game Coverage for school and community sporting events.
Severe injuries and repairs may require Orthopedic Surgery.Our surgeons, board-certified and fellowship-trained in Sports Medicine, understand the unique requirements of athletes.
Using state-of-the-art procedures and equipment, Sparrow Rehabilitation specialists provide a variety of unique and effective treatments for musculoskeletal conditions and injuries. The soft resistance of Aquatic Therapy allows an athlete to increase strength, endurance and range of motion, often more quickly than with dry land methods. Simulated sport-specific training offers athletes Functional Rehabilitation for accelerated return to play.
The Michigan Athletic Club (MAC), a Sparrow affiliate, caters to the Fitness requirements of athletes at all levels. This 25,600 square foot fitness center has a quarter-mile indoor track, Olympic-size and therapy pools, personal training and the PREP Post-Rehabilitation Exercise Program.
Sparrow professionals provide immediate injury assistance for high school and community sporting events. Athletic Training includes on-field evaluation and care — through rehabilitation and return-to-play.
Performance Enhancement Training, offered through the MAC, is designed to optimize athletic performance through specialized, individual training programs.
