Outpatient surgery can be performed under local anesthetic that numbs the operative site while the patient is awake, or general anesthetic that will put the patient to sleep. The average length of stay is between three and seven hours from the time of admission to discharge.

Before outpatient surgery, a telephone interview with a nurse is required to obtain a medical history and other pertinent information. Please have a list of all of the medications you are taking available for this interview. Your address, phone number and insurance will also be checked by the admission phone clerk. The telephone interview should be completed prior to your surgery date.
