Sparrow Health System was born out of volunteerism and that spirit of community service still endures at Sparrow today.
The forerunner of Sparrow was founded in 1896 by a volunteer group known as the Women’s Hospital Association.
Much has changed at Sparrow since then but volunteers are a crucial part of Sparrow’s mission. More than 1,600 volunteers contributed more than 157,000 hours of their time on all of Sparrow’s campuses in 2009.
Their contributions were invaluable to improving the health and well-being of the mid-Michigan region.
