- Volunteers in good standing receiving outpatient or inpatient services at Sparrow Hospital (Sparrow
main campus, St. Lawrence, exclusive of physician services) shall be given a 20% discount on billings not
paid by the volunteer's insurance.
- Volunteers in good standing may have prescriptions filled at Sparrow Hospital pharmacies and Pharmacy
Plus at a discount of cost plus 10%, plus a $5.00 dispensing fee.
- Volunteers in good standing shall receive a 20% discount on merchandise purchased at Sparrow Regional
Medical Supply and Pharmacy Plus stores, and shall receive a 20% discount on services provided by Sparrow
Home Care Network.
- Volunteers in good standing receive the same discounts that associates receive for special events and
promotions sponsored by SHS. Membership discounts are available at the Michigan Athletic Club (MAC.) The MAC
discount consists of 20% off the initiation fee and a $3 discount on the monthly membership fee. The MAC
discounts are available after a volunteer has accumulated one year of service and maintains his/her membership
in good standing status. Volunteers are also eligible to join the Sparrow Associate Fitness Centers for
$104/year, paid in advance.
In order to receive the discounts noted above, a volunteer shall obtain a letter from the Volunteer Services department authorizing that he/she is a volunteer in good standing.
Note that volunteer discounts cannot be used in combination with other discounts available. For those volunteers who are also associates, associate discounts take precedence over volunteer discounts.
Discounts are not applied to co-payments or deductibles.
Retroactive applications of this discount policy will not be made if the volunteer, at the time of purchase or service, was not a member in good standing.
Discounts apply to volunteers in good standing, and do not include family members or relatives of volunteers.
In addition, volunteers are entitled to the following:
- Parking privileges in the Sparrow Professional Building covered parking ramp on the Sparrow campus.
- No charge for flu shots or TB skin tests.
- Annual holiday gift.
- Volunteers are welcome to attend educational seminars at the hospital.
- Volunteers are invited to the annual Sparrow Family Picnic and other celebrations throughout the year.
- Annual service awards are given beginning at 5 years of service and continue in 5 year increments. All
volunteers are invited to the Women's Hospital Association Annual meeting and luncheon.
- Volunteers who file an itemized tax return may be eligible to claim the following decuctions: unreimbursed
travel expenses, telephone charges; postage and supplies; uniforms; transportation costs to and from work shifts;
monetary gifts and contributions to Sparrow such as the CMN campaign, Sparrow Foundation, memorials, etc.
