6.1 Dues
Volunteers shall submit dues to their respective groups on an annual basis. The amount of dues varies in each group. One dollar per member is submitted annually by the group to the Sparrow Women's Hospital Association. The remainder is used by the group to cover expenses such as postage, memorials, supplies and other costs needed to operate the group effectively and efficiently.
6.2 Life Memberships
Life Memberships are available to volunteers and staff who wish to support educational efforts for health care personnel. Individual memberships are $100; family memberships are $150. Volunteers who are Life Members shall not be required to submit the $1 annual dues to the Sparrow Women's Hospital Association.
6.3 IRS Status/Requirements
For the purpose of federal tax reporting purposes, all volunteer groups shall be identified as one non-profit entity known as the Sparrow Women's Hospital Association. All volunteer groups shall use the Association's tax-exempt identification number. All groups shall submit annual financial information to the Volunteer Services department; filings with the appropriate state and federal agencies shall be prepared on an annual basis by the SHS finance staff and/or its agents.
6.4 Solicitation of Volunteers
Volunteers shall be solicited by letter once a year in support of the Children's Miracle Network campaign. This solicitation shall be approved and signed by the President of the Women's Board of Managers. Additional solicitations must be approved by the Women's Board of Managers.
6.5 Solicitation by Volunteers
The solicitation of gifts, either cash and/or in-kind, from the community by individual SHS volunteer groups must first be approved and authorized by the Executive Director of the Sparrow Foundation.
Volunteer groups engaged in fund raising activities shall coordinate such activities with the Sparrow Foundation in these areas: scheduling of events; fund raising sources and strategies; determination of fund recipients, such as departments, equipment, programs, etc.
6.6 Memorial Funds
Volunteer groups wishing to make contributions in memory of a volunteer have the following options in addition to the Sparrow Foundation: the Art Enrichment Fund of the Women's Board of Managers and/or the Educational/Scholarship Fund of the Women's Board of Managers, the St. Lawrence Auxiliary Remembrance Funds, Care for the Caregiver and/or the Chip Larkey Fund.
