Safety Policy: Right to Know

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines to all Sparrow volunteers regarding their rights and responsibilities on the safe handling of hazardous materials in their area of service.

This information is included in the Volunteer Handbook. It is also reviewed in General Orientation which is required of all volunteers before they begin their assignments.

The volunteers are required in General Orientation to sign a form (attached) that confirms this information has been reviewed and those forms are kept in the individual volunteer's file in the Volunteer Services department.

11.1  Right to Know Standards

  1. Volunteers have the right to receive information regarding the safe handling of any hazardous material with which they may come into contact while performing their duties.
  2. Material Safety Data Sheets are available in each department where the hazardous material is used. The Data Sheets are also available in the Security department.
  3. Volunteers have the right to request information from their associate supervisor, volunteer President, the Volunteer Services staff or the Security department.
