Sparrow has a partnership with MSU to coordinate all college student volunteers, regardless of where they
attend college. College Student Volunteer Program Applications can be found in Room 27 in the MSU Student
Services Building, Service Learning Center at Michigan State University or call 517.353.4400. You can also
visit their web site at www.servicelearning.msu.edu.
About the Program:
The Service Learning Center (SLC) is a unit of Career Services and Placement within the MSU Division of
Student Affairs and Services. The SLC (The Office of Volunteer Programs 1968-78) was established by the MSU
Board of Trustees to coordinate students in community service.
Human Services and Mental Health programs involve direct services, crisis intervention or advocacy work.
Senior Programs and Recreation Leadership offer students opportunities to develop new programs or projects
in a variety of settings. Many service learning placements are integrated with University courses.
Orientation
An orientation at Sparrow is held every term before students begin their volunteer work. During this session,
responsibilities for their particular job will be covered, as well as job requirements and who will supervise
them.
Qualifications
To be considered as a student volunteer, the student can go to Room #27 in the basement of the Student
Services Building, located on the Michigan State University campus, and fill out an application, call
517.353.4400 or go to the MSU web site MSU
