Herbal Medicine
Herbal Medicine is the use of herbs for their therapeutic value. An herb is a plant or a part of a plant valued for its medicinal qualities.
Herbal plants produce and contain a variety of chemical substances that may act upon the body to improve various conditions.
Uses/Research Base: It is by far
the oldest form of medicine practiced by mankind. Much of the knowledge
that we have today on herbal medicine comes from volumes called "Herbals"
that date back five thousand years and come from China, India, and ancient
Egypt. Today, the use of herbal remedies is not an obscure method of
treatment; approximately 75 percent of the world's population relies on
them as their primary source of health care. Substances derived from plants
remain the basis for many commercial medications manufactured today, which
are used to treat heart disease, pain, asthma, and other conditions.
