Uterine Cancer

Uterine cancer occurs most frequently in women between the ages of 55 and 70. Abnormal bleeding after menopause is the most common symptom. Risk factors include having few or no children, menstruation beginning at an early age, and menopause occurring at a late age. When uterine cancer is detected early and treated, nearly all patients can be cured.

Screening Recommendations
A pelvic examination of your uterus, vagina, ovaries, bladder and rectum each year. With abnormal uterine bleeding, an endometrial biopsy may be performed. In an office procedure, cells are removed from the inner lining of the uterus and microscopically examined for evidence of cancer.

Women who have had a hysterectomy need to continue to have yearly pelvic exams as well.
