At the UM Health-Sparrow High-Risk Cancer Clinic, we provide compassionate, specialized care and monitoring to patients who are at a high risk of developing cancer. Our goal is to reduce the risk of cancer and to detect it in its earliest stages. Our multidisciplinary team of experts, including medical oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, and a certified genetics counselor, is dedicated to giving you the knowledge and recommendations necessary to manage your risk of cancer effectively.
Services
We offer a wide range of services, from evidence-based prevention strategies to risk management, all with the aim of providing comprehensive and personalized care. During your first visit, you will be seen by a skilled advanced practice provider who will evaluate your risk factors for various types of cancers, determine optimal screening timelines, and refer you to specialist providers if necessary. Additionally, you may be referred to a genetic counselor to assess if any hereditary factors could increase your risk of developing cancer.
You may be seen at the High-Risk Cancer Clinic if:
- Anyone in your family has been diagnosed with cancer at or before the age of 50
- You or a family member have had ovarian cancer
- You have a family history of rare cancers such as pancreatic cancer or male breast cancer
- Multiple members of your family have had similar or related cancers such as breast and ovarian cancer or colon and uterine cancer
- Your family has a known gene mutation with associated increased cancer risks
- You have had a breast biopsy proven atypical hyperplasia or lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS)
- You have had adenomatous colon polyps (adenomas) found during a colonoscopy
- You have had chest wall radiation therapy
- You are of Ashkenazi Jewish ancestry
