Pediatric hematology care close to home

The UM Health-Sparrow Children's Center provides a full range of healthcare services to infants, children, and adolescents with problems of the blood and blood-forming tissues.

Common hematology problems include:

  • Anemia (low hemoglobin or red blood cell count)
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Bleeding disorders such as hemophilia
  • Strokes
  • Clotting problems
  • Thalassemia
  • Myelodysplastic syndrome
  • Aplastic anemia
  • Immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP)
  • Histiocytosis

These services are provided in cooperation with physicians from Michigan State University (MSU) Department of Pediatrics and Human Development.

The physicians at MSU, along with the UM Health-Sparrow, participate in selected drug trials and national treatment protocols related to blood problems.
