Sparrow Nurse Glenna Miller celebrated her retirement last month, just weeks after marking her 80th birthday.
In fact, this is the Lansing woman's second retirement from Sparrow and the end of a long career as a Nurse caring for Sparrow Patients.
"I have enjoyed a positive and rewarding nursing profession," said Miller. "I have been fortunate to work with professional people, and I have been proud to work at Sparrow."
Miller started at Sparrow as a Nurse in 1969 and served in several areas of the hospital, including the stroke and spinal cord unit (now the Neurosciences Center), post-partum unit (now the Mother Baby Center), Nursing Education, and Medical Staff Quality Improvement and Credentialing.
She retired in 1992, and was asked to come back on a per diem basis for six weeks a few years later.
The six weeks turned into months and then years, with Miller ending up serving 18 years at Sparrow Bariatric & Weight Management Services following her first retirement.
Don't think her time at Sparrow is really done, though. Miller will continue to volunteer in the Sparrow Hospital Gift Shop.
"I'm very proud of Sparrow," she said. "I have been here so long - I have been pleased and impressed with the growth of our wonderful facility and its reputation."
She credits her vitality and long career to her focus on maintaining a balance between work and play. She plans to spend her retirement playing tennis, vacationing in Florida, singing in her church choir, volunteering in the community, and enjoying her 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
