The Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Anita Palmer of Okemos the April Volunteer of the Month. Palmer has volunteered with the “Sparrows”, a sewing group, for over 7 years. The group sews small stuffed toys and animals for the children in the Emergency Department and patients in Pediatrics. She sews at the hospital with the group and often in her own home. She has been described as dedicated, friendly, dependable and an excellent seamstress. Palmer also sews “pillow case” dresses for children in Haiti and the Philippines as well as blankets for the local needy through her church, St. Martha’s, in Okemos. Also, previously, she repaired the jerseys for the MSU football team. Anita and her husband, Ron, have three children and four grandchildren. Her hobbies are sewing, of course, and gardening, especially growing tomatoes to make her own recipe for Italian sauces. She also enjoys playing a keyboard. After attending Mt. St. Joseph College where she studied business, she worked at M.S.U. for 20 years in the Human Ecology Department. The Sparrow Women’s Board takes great pride in honoring volunteers like Anita Palmer who share their time and talent for the benefit of Sparrow’s patients and families.
