Sparrow Ionia Hospital names Nurse of the Year
IONIA, MI – Emergency Department nurse Samantha Fletcher, BSN, RN, has been selected as Sparrow Ionia Hospital’s 2020 Nurse of the Year.
Fletcher – a caregiver at Sparrow Ionia since 2013 – was nominated by her peers and hailed as having “an exceptional understanding of the community around her” and a “beacon of knowledge.”
“Sam has a unique way of finding the smallest light in a dark situation,” said one nomination form. “When the sickest of patients arrive, Sam is always the first one in the room.”
She was described as a joyful presence in a sometimes-tense atmosphere who made sure a recent surplus of money was spent on toys for children who might be afraid of the Emergency Department.
Fletcher was also noted as being an excellent role model for other nurses and an unyielding advocate for patients who makes sure they have the necessary resources when they are discharged.
For being Nurse of the Year, Fletcher received a gift bag filled with lots of goodies, along with a bouquet of flowers.
Sparrow Ionia Hospital congratulates Fletcher, and all of our nurses, for their dedication and commitment to extraordinary Patient care.
