Attentive, caring Radiation Therapist honored

Being hundreds of miles away from the comforts of home and in the hospital is not ideal for any Patient, especially a child.

Radiation Therapist Samantha Lockhart went above and beyond for an 11-year-old boy and his father from the Upper Peninsula. They were in Lansing for three weeks recently while the child was being treated at the Sparrow Cancer Center.

“My heart felt heavy for them. I truly love every Patient I treat and I would do more for them if I could,” said Lockhart. “It felt right going above daily excellence to show them the Sparrow Cancer Center is here to support them.”

Sparrow honors those like Samantha who provide extraordinary care, making sure the needs of our Patients always come first.

Working with fellow Caregivers, Samantha helped secure complimentary passes to the Sparrow Michigan Athletic Club as a way for them to pass time and help the child’s healing journey. She also reached out to NCG Cinemas to receive donated movie passes for the duo.

“Samantha truly exemplifies radical loving care,” said Theresa Pruder, Manager, Radiation Oncology at the Sparrow Cancer Center, who nominated Samantha. “She provided an exceptional Patient experience to this young man and his father.”
