A fellow Caregiver saw the impact that Jennifer Ludwig has as a Nurse in Sparrow’s Cardiac Care Unit when her own grandfather was a Patient in the Unit.
I just wanted someone to know that a particular Nurse named Jennifer in the Cardiac Care Unit is the best Nurse ever,” Sparrow Lab Tech Kelli Taylor wrote. “She was patient and kind with my family member, who is expiring. When we moved him to the Oncology floor last night, she even held his hand. This a prime example of nursing that I cannot let go unrecognized …
“We told her ‘thank you’ many times, but we thought that was not enough for all she did. Please let her know that my family will always think of her, and will continue to pray that Sparrow will have Nurses like her on every floor.”
Ludwig said she was “stunned…pleasantly surprised…speechless” by the DAISY Award honor, given monthly to an outstanding Sparrow Nurse.
Christine Jodoin, Sparrow’s Vice President of Nursing, read the entire letter from Taylor at a recent ceremony in the Cardiac Care Unit. Ludwig accepted the award as colleagues and supervisors looked on.
The DAISY Award was established by The DAISY Foundation in memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of ITP, an auto-immune disease. The Barnes Family was awestruck by the clinical skills, caring and compassion of the Nurses who cared for Patrick, and created this international award to say thank you to Nurses everywhere.
A Sparrow Nurse is chosen each month to receive The DAISY Award. DAISY Award nominations are accepted throughout the year.
