The Sparrow Women's Board of Managers and the Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Bonnie Schuon of Grand Ledge the October Volunteer of the Month.

She got her start volunteering nearly 12 years ago after hearing about infant massage at Sparrow from a neighbor. She currently serves as president of the infant massage group.

Bonnie is very committed to ensuring all volunteers are qualified and sensitive, and that parents are trained so massage can be continued at home with the babies.

Bonnie comes from a long line of volunteers. Her mother made bandages for 25 years, and her mother-in-law, husband, and daughters all have served as Sparrow volunteers.

Bonnie grew up in Lansing, lived in Traverse City for 7 years and returned to Lansing. She graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Elementary Education, and spent some time student teaching in London. After some elementary teaching as well as nursery school work, she started work at Capital Savings and Loan.

Bonnie and her husband Rick live on an 80 acre farm in Grand Ledge and have three horses, 2 barn cats and a yellow lab. They have three children and three grandchildren.
