Chris Holtham will tell you he is just doing his job, but Patients and fellow Caregivers say he truly provides quality, compassionate care for everyone, every time.
Holtham, a Patient Care Technician in the Sparrow Cancer Center, is the first to be recognized in our new Caregiver Spotlight. He received numerous nominations from fellow Caregivers when they were asked to name a PCT of the Year by the Nursing Work Life Committee. The committee wanted to acknowledge a PCT for their outstanding contributions to Patients.
“There are dozens of other of PCTs deserving of this,” said Holtham. “I just love my job. I love my people.”
A valuable member of the Medical Oncology team, Holtham embodies our ICARE values, treating every person he meets with respect. His attitude is positive and he greets everyone with a smile.
Holtham is equally known for the flavored coffee and hot chocolate he mixes for Patients to make them more comfortable during treatments. It is something his great-grandmother taught him as a child.
“She made us this special hot cocoa,” he said. “It was the best I ever had.”
Holtham has worked as a PCT for nearly 25 years and at the Cancer Center for about 14 years.
“Chris has the unique ability to keep a situation light and ease the Patient’s fears,” said Joanne Anderson, RN, BSN, OCN, Assistant Department Manager at the Sparrow Cancer Center. “Patients acknowledge Chris for his sense of humor, kindness and his ability to remember the little details about them.”
