Michelle Nugent’s approach to her job as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at Sparrow Ionia Hospital is elegant in its simplicity.
“I always put myself in my Patients’ shoes,” Nugent says. “No one ever wants to be in a hospital. No one wants to be sick. I treat everybody with dignity and respect because that’s how I would want to be treated.”
That attitude has earned Nugent recognition as Sparrow’s Caregiver Spotlight. The Caregiver Spotlight honors those like Nugent who provide extraordinary care, making sure the needs of our Patients always come first. In her nominating note, Nugent’s supervisor, Lisa Sinko, wrote:
“Michelle is a blessing! She is willing to come in early, leave late, or fill in shifts that are left vacant. She always has a smile on her face, is extremely positive and takes excellent care of our Patients ...”
Nugent became a Sparrow Caregiver in April 2015. She works directly with Patients - from monitoring their vital signs, to taking care of their routine daily needs.
“Doing these kinds of jobs allows the Nurses to concentrate on other things,” she says.
Nugent is currently enrolled in Lansing Community College and plans to transfer to Davenport University and earn her nursing degree. Nugent says she’s always happy to do whatever it takes to help her fellow Caregivers.
“We’re a team and I always want to do what’s best for the team. I come to work ready to go 110 percent for my team.”
