Caregivers hit the streets for third annual Walk with the CEO

Hundreds of Sparrow Caregivers took part in the third annual Walk with the CEO on Tuesday, May 12, to promote health and wellness with a one-mile lunchtime trek down Michigan Avenue.

The event marks National Employee Fitness & Wellness Month and was led by Sparrow President & CEO Dennis Swan and other members of the Sparrow leadership team.

The event showcases Sparrow’s ongoing commitment to Caregiver health and wellness, by encouraging an active lifestyle among Sparrow Caregivers. This event is one of many efforts Sparrow has undertaken in order to support our mission of providing quality care to every Patient, every time. Sparrow plays a leadership role in health and wellness issues in the community, and aims to be a model for health improvement in Michigan.

Caregivers walked 1.5 miles along Michigan Avenue, starting and ending at the former Bingham Elementary School. Guest appearances by Sparty, MSU Football Coach Mark Dantonio and MSU Basketball Associate Head Coach Dwayne Stephens helped liven up the festivities. Members of the MSU Spartan Basketball team were also on hand signing autographs and posing for pictures with Caregiver fans.

The event also offered an “Ask the Experts” table, where Caregivers could get healthy tips and one-on-one information from a panel of experts that included a Dietitian, Personal Trainer, and Wellness Coach.

A highlight of this year’s event was the trophy awarded to the top Sparrow Caregiver Steps Challenge team. The Sole SavERs team consisted of Caregivers Jennifer Coscarelli, Emily Oberst, Jessica Carpenter, Allison Callison, and Allison Kildee from the Sparrow Emergency Department. Each Sole SavERs team member also earned aSparrow umbrella and blue tooth speakers.

Prizes were also drawn among all Caregivers who met the goal of 8,000 steps per day during the month leading up to the Walk.First place winner Josi Brynick won a FitBit. The second place prize of dinner and a movie went to Cheryl Kalawert, while a Creative Wellness massage went to third place winner Christina Hamill. Ten other Caregivers won $25 gift certificates.
