Caregivers receive free lunch as thanks from local attorney

LANSING, MI – Sparrow Hospital caregivers have been incredible during our Coronavirus response and a local attorney is making sure they get a free lunch on Friday to express his gratitude.

The caregivers will receive a free boxed lunch thanks to a $10,000 donation from Lansing attorney Jamie White. White said the selection of the community-owned, community-governed hospital was a natural choice and he wanted to recognize caregivers for their work during the pandemic. The donation also comes in advance of National Hospital Week, May 10-16.

Said Laura Fellows, Sparrow Hospital’s Director of Food & Nutrition: “Jamie's generosity is a great reminder that the community appreciates Sparrow physicians and caregivers,

Fellows has been helping to coordinate donations from food providers and restaurants. Many of these providers have matching grants, which give the hospital double value for its purchases, so cash donations like White’s go twice as far.

White said he’s had two close friends sickened by COVID-19, which has made the pandemic hit home and helped him realize “how much I value what these healthcare workers struggle with on a daily basis.”
