Carson Foundation invests in health of student athletes

CARSON CITY, MI. – The Carson Foundation, in its mission to enhance the health and wellness of the region, has donated $2,000 to Ithaca High School’s Athletic Department in order to help student athletes improve their performance and aid in rehabilitation from injuries.

The donation will allow the purchase of a Vertimax Platform Training System, a vertical jump and speed system with eight built-in adjustable resistance bands. Vertimax will be used to help improve vertical jumping abilities and speed in a variety of sports, such as basketball, volleyball, track, and football.

Most importantly, it will be used for a more controlled rehabilitation after an athlete returns from physical therapy. The high school’s weightlifting and training room team anticipates less injuries from overuse, and better and more sustained recovery after an injury.

“Proper training is one of the simplest things athletes can do to prevent injuries, or recover from one. The Vertimax’s versatility will help teachers, coaches and athletes stay on a suitable training path,” says David Freestone, M.D., Carson Foundation Board Member and Physician at Sparrow Medical Group Ithaca.

During a normal school week, 48-50 students utilize the school’s weightlifting and training program.
