For more than three decades, Sparrow Nurse Sue Sugden, FNP, ACHPN, has been providing compassionate care to both Patients and their families. This month, she's being honored for her service and dedication to Nursing in Sparrow's RN Caregiver Spotlight.

Sparrow's RN Caregiver Spotlight recognizes one Nurse each month and highlights his/her accomplishments.

Sugden has been at Sparrow since 1992 and for the past six years has worked in Palliative Care.

"Palliative Care is about helping Patients and families during long-term illness," Sugden said. "We manage symptoms and help Patients talk about their goals for care. The work helps us to form a unique bond of trust with our Patients."

Sugden provides care and advice to Patients regarding the physical, emotional, and social issues they may face during long-term illness.

"Sue is a very talented clinician who is intent on meeting the individualized needs of every Patient," said Michelle Wiseman, Director of Sparrow Hospice and Palliative Care Services. "Sue respectfully and consistently seeks to understand her Patients' traditions that may impact their healthcare choices and plans their care with them accordingly. Her passion and advocacy for the Patient is unwavering."

"We have the best Nurses at Sparrow," added Sugden. "It's always a team effort. I have never worked with a group of people who are such strong Patient advocates."
