Issam El-Moussawi (you can call him “Sam”) sees himself as a utility player on Sparrow’s Endoscopy team.
El-Moussawi’s official title is Patient Care Technician, but he’s willing to help in any way he can - getting stretchers and other equipment ready, running specimens to the lab, transporting Patients, whatever his department needs at the moment.
“I’m there to make sure everything is taken care of,” El-Moussawi says. “I come with a smile on my face, ready to work. I enjoy my job and being part of the team.”
El-Moussawi is the recipient of this month’s Sparrow Caregiver Spotlight, honoring those who provide extraordinary care, making sure the needs of our Patients always come first.
Nurse Karla Barker, who nominated El-Moussawi for the Caregiver Spotlight, describes him as “a valuable member of the Endoscopy team,” adding:
“He always has a smile on his face and pep in his step. He is willing to do absolutely anything that he is asked in the unit and never complains. Issam has made endoscopy a more pleasant place to work.”
El-Moussawi, a native of Beirut, Lebanon, has worked at Sparrow since 2007. He was born in Beirut, Lebanon and came to Michigan in 1985 to attend Michigan State University. His personal contact with Patients and fellow Caregivers is his favorite part of the job.
“I love dealing with people, and making them smile,” he says. “I’m a social person.”
As for the Caregiver Spotlight nomination, El-Moussawi says, “It makes me want to work harder to live up to the honor.”
