LANSING, Mich. - Like many communities across the country, mid-Michigan is experiencing a higher than normal volume of flu cases. Sparrow is urging anyone with symptoms to first contact their primary physician or to visit a Sparrow urgent care facility.
"We want to ensure all of our Patients are receiving quality, compassionate care in a timely manner, said Carol Dwyer, Sparrow Vice President of Nursing. "Many of these Patients are choosing to come to the Emergency Department, but we recommend first visiting your primary physician or one of Sparrow's two urgent care locations in order to avoid longer wait times."
Patients can also avoid increased costs associated with insurance copayments by seeing their physician instead of visiting the Emergency Department.
The U. S. Centers for Disease Control says high levels of influenza-like illness are taking place throughout the country. If you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, chills, nausea, or fatigue be sure to rest at home and drink plenty of fluids.
If symptoms progress or become more serious, contact your physician or visit one of Sparrow's two urgent cares in mid-Michigan. Visit www.sparrow.org/sparrowurgentcare for locations and hours.
