Heart and Vascular Center earns major national awards

LANSING, MI – The Sparrow Heart and Vascular Center has received major national recognition, part of its mission to provide the highest quality care close to home.

The Heart and Vascular Center has been given the STEMI Silver Level Recognition Award by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association related to its treatment of Patients experiencing ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). STEMI is the deadliest type of heart attack caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart. It’s critical in STEMI Patients to restore blood flow as quickly as possible.

Sparrow received the award based on factors such as how quickly Patients received corrective devices and aspirin upon arrival at the hospital. More than 250,000 people experience STEMI in the U.S. every year.

In addition, the Sparrow Heart and Vascular Center has received the ACTION Registry Silver Performance Achievement Award from the National Cardiovascular Data Registry. The registry is maintained by the American College of Cardiology and features standardized, evidence-based data from participating hospitals.

The Performance Award reflects Sparrow’s commitment to best-practice care of Patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), or heart attacks. It showcases Sparrow’s commitment to delivering the highest quality in cardiovascular care to transform heart health.

Sparrow Heart and Vascular Center services include non-invasive testing, Catheterization Laboratories, and a Cardiac Recovery Unit. The Center also has minimally invasive procedures for Structured Heart, Electrophysiology, Interventional Cardiology, Interventional Neurology, and Interventional Radiology.
