Hello Hospital program for young kids hits 15 year milestone

Published: Dec. 15, 2015

Did you know that Sparrow sponsors an interactive, hands-on program for area first grade students? The program, Hello Hospital, recently hit a 15 year milestone.

Located at the St. Lawrence Campus, Hello Hospital gives first grade children an awareness of hospital procedures and Caregivers during a field trip which includes a video about hospital workers, and the chance to explore the tools and equipment used in surgery, a laboratory, a Patient room, and an x-ray/casting room. The students also receive hospital items to take home including masks, gloves, hats and shoe covers.

Hello Hospital was visited by 40 classes this past school year with 869 students and 238 adult chaperones. The program operates during the school year on alternate Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9-11:30 a.m. 16 active Volunteers and three MSU students contribute more than 500 volunteer hours each school year to conduct the program.

First Grade teachers interested in signing up for the program can contact Tracy Feazel at tracy.feazel@sparrow.org or 517.364.7177. Two classes may attend Hello Hospital at the same time. Interested Volunteers can also contact Tracy.
