Fernando Mata is not afraid to get his hands dirty.
As a Nutrition Specialist at Sparrow, it happens quite a bit. He shuffles between the Sparrow’s Cafeteria, the Lobby Café or wherever else he is needed, answering phones, running the cash register or whatever else needs to be done.
“I love what I do,” Mata said.
Mata oversees Cafeteria operations. He makes a point to remember names and talk to Patients and Caregivers, sometimes just thanking them for stopping in.
He was nominated for Sparrow’s Caregiver Spotlight, honoring those who go above and beyond in providing extraordinary care, making sure the needs of the Patient always come first.
“I’ve learned from my supervisors who are always willing to help,” Mata said. “Why would I ask someone to do something I wouldn’t do?”
