Janice May Todosciuk, of St. Johns, was known as the "Miracle Lady" before ending her life's journey earlier this year at Sparrow's Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. She will be honored at the 2012 Hike/Bike for Hospice from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, at Granger Meadows Park in DeWitt.
Each year the event honors the life of someone special. Janice had a zest for living that defied doctors' prognoses after she underwent open-heart surgery in 2007. Janice and her husband Frank went on to enjoy many years of traveling, spending their winters in Florida. But when her health began to fail, it was clearly time to come back home to Michigan for hospice. "I'd been in other hospices, and they just weren't the same. There is such a feeling of love, comfort and home at Sparrow's Hospice House," said her daughter Annette Snyder.
"The annual Hike/Bike for Hospice is a chance to raise awareness of Hospice services, raise funds to ensure the continued delivery of compassionate hospice care in mid-Michigan, and honor and remember our loved ones who have completed life's journey," said Michelle Wiseman, Director of Sparrow Hospice Services. "It's really a heartening, and healing, event."
The Hike/Bike event features hiking and biking trails, food, music therapy courtesy of Marshall Music, and kids' activities including inflatable bouncers, face painting, demonstrations by Impression 5 and Potter Park Zoo, plus a visit by Sparty and Big Lug. An additional feature at this year's event will be an appearance by the miniature horses of Sierra Rose Farms.
