James Olson, M.D., appointed chief of Sparrow’s medical staff

Sparrow Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of James Olson, M.D., of Mason, as chief of the medical staff for a two-year term. The appointment took effect Jan. 1.

"It is a tremendous honor to be elected by my peers to lead a medical staff that works hard to provide quality care to Patients each and every day," said Dr. Olson. "I will continue to support our efforts to improve the health of the people in our communities by providing quality, compassionate care."

Dr. Olson is a physician champion for the iSparrow Electronic Medical Record and director of the Sparrow/Michigan State University Family Medicine residency program.

Dr. Olson has served as chief of staff-elect for the past two years after being elected by the active members of Sparrow's medical staff to serve as their representative to the hospital board, the executive management team and the community.

Dr. Olson is board certified in family medicine. He is a graduate of Wayne State University and completed his residency at Sparrow Hospital before joining Sparrow's medical staff in 1986. He is past vice-chair of the Family Medicine Department and past director of Sparrow Mason Urgent Care.

Dr. Olson and his wife Jenny have lived in Mason for 30 years and have three grown children and three grandchildren.

He takes over for previous chief of medical staff, John Armstrong, M.D. During Dr. Olson's term, John Kepros, M.D., will serve as chief of staff-elect.
