Sara Detlor, a physical therapist with Sparrow’s Acute Care Rehabilitation, went above and beyond when she volunteered to be the primary physical therapist on Sparrow’s COVID-19 units. When the pandemic began, Sara felt concerned for some of her coworkers who have elderly parents or babies at home. So, Sara didn’t hesitate to volunteer. “Just the fact that I get to come in and help people all day long, that’s the best part,” she says. “With our COVID patients, we still go in, we do their evaluation, we help them get up and walk, give them exercises, and make sure they are doing everything they need to do to go home safe.” Sara’s unwavering commitment to providing compassionate, individualized care to every patient throughout the pandemic is among the reasons she is this month’s Sparrow Caregiver Spotlight honoree.
