Lego team-building helps trial new IV pump inventory process

Caregivers from throughout the hospital gathered last week for a simulation exercise to test a new centralized process for IV pump inventory replenishment.

Participating in the simulation were Caregivers from Med/Surg, Stepdown, Critical Care, Mother Baby, Peds, ED, Surgical Services, Cardiology Services, Service Response and Bio Med.

Tables representing these units within the hospital were given a supply of Legos representing IV poles, pumps and channels.

Participants then ran through multiple simulations tracking the movement of Patients throughout the hospital with their IV equipment. The exercise helped demonstrate how a proposed new process would operate to ensure that units maintain sufficient supply, monitor storage levels, and improve the efficiency of restocking across departments.
