LANSING, Mich. - East Lansing/Lansing Hungry Howie's franchise owner Dominic Carbone wanted to do something special for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so he organized a free pizza lunch for dozens of Sparrow Cancer Center staffers.

Carbone, a member of the Sparrow Foundation Board of Directors, said he wanted to express his gratitude for the incredible work performed by those at the state-of-the-art Cancer Center.

"The bottom line is to make people aware of what they're doing at the Cancer Center and get them engaged in the care here," said Carbone, who owns four local Hungry Howie's franchises.

The pizza was served from pink Hungry Howie's boxes, commemorating Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For every pizza purchased in October, Hungry Howie's will make a donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

"This is great recognition for our staff," said James Herman, M.D., Director of the Sparrow Cancer Center. "And it's fitting that it comes on Mammogram Awareness Day."

The event was attended by breast cancer survivor Debby Harrison of East Lansing. She received her radiation treatment at the Cancer Center.

"It's wonderful that a business would give back to the community and support the compassionate care at Sparrow," Harrison said.
