MAC Tennis Juniors Win State Titles

Abby Perkins

Abby Perkins, sophomore at Mason High School, won the Division 2 #1 singles title at Kalamazoo College this past weekend. Abby, the 2011 Lansing State Journal Player of the Year, was seeded fifth and in the quarter-finals defeated Irene Ng 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. She then upset the #1 seed, Molly Fox 7-6, 6-3 in the semi's and in the finals defeated the #2 seed, Kerry Hu, 6-2, 6-2. Abby also won the Regionals and finished the year with a record of 24-2. She is the daughter of MAC tennis pro, Bruce Perkins.

 

Draga Sabotic

Draga Sabotic, a freshman at Okemos High School, won the Division 2 #3 singles title at Kalamazoo College over the weekend. Draga, who was seeded #1, defeated Erin Weingarter in the semi-finals 6-0, 6-1. In the final, Draga squeaked out a three set win over Lauren Frazier 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 after being down a set and 4-0 to her opponent. Draga also won the Regionals and finished the year undefeated at 34-0.

 

Calla Ramont

Calla Ramont, a freshman at Lansing Catholic High School, won the Division 4 #3 singles title at Holland last weekend. Calla, who was seeded #1, disposed of Tyler Papazian in the semi-finals 7-5, 6-1. In the finals Calla defeated Taylor Applehof 6-2, 6-2. Calla also won the Regionals and finished the year undefeated at 17-0, having not lost a set the entire year.
