May 2017 Volunteer of the Month

Published: May 31, 2017

Sparrow Women’s Board of Managers and the Sparrow Volunteer Services Department have named Wanetta Gantz the May Volunteer of the Month. Gantz has been a volunteer with the Sparrow Escorts for 14 years and she says she really enjoys the people she meets coming into the huge lobby at Sparrow’s main campus and it is a pleasure to help them find their way to visit patients or get to an appointment. She feels that she takes the confusion and anxiety from their experience at Sparrow and brightens their day. She also escorts them to their ride home after a stay at the hospital.

Gantz is known to be a steady volunteer with Escorts and is a “treasure” to Volunteer Services. She rarely misses a shift and is friendly, dependable and steadfast in her service to Sparrow’s patients and has accumulated 2,111 hours and counting.

She is married to William and they have 4 children, 15 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren with 1 on the way! She enjoys yardwork at home, and shuffle board while in South Naples, Florida in the winter.

Gantz grew up in Middleton, Michigan and moved to Webberville when she married William who owned a business transporting liquid dairy products. She was a school bus driver for 10 ½ years. After selling the business, she wanted to be busy helping others so joined the volunteers at Sparrow.

The Sparrow Women’s Board takes great pride in honoring volunteers like Wanetta Gantz who share their time and talent for the benefit of Sparrow’s patients and families. To learn more about volunteering at Sparrow, please visit Sparrow.org or call our office at 517.364.3606, Option 1.
