Kellye Youngs, RN, has made it her mission to make young Patients at Sparrow’s Children’s Center, particularly those with autism, as comfortable as possible while receiving care.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Nurse’s son is autistic and after he was hospitalized as a teen, they realized a need for specialized tools to help autistic kids cope with the hospital setting.

Youngs developed a sensory cart filled with supplies like noise cancelling headphones and special blankets to provide every child and their family individualized care which supports communication and coping, while providing safe, quality, compassionate care.

The cart was made possible by a $2,500 grant.
