Physician and Advanced Practice Provider of the Year Honored

LANSING, MI – Several highly skilled Sparrow medical providers were celebrated for their outstanding work as Sparrow named a Physician of the Year and the newest inductees into our Hall of Fame.

John Baker, M.D., Medical Director of Sparrow’s Behavioral Health, was named Sparrow’s 2023’s Physician of the Year and Nurse Practitioner Mary Boudreau, DNP, MSW, of Sparrow Medical Group Senior Health earned Sparrow’s first-ever Advanced Practice Provider Award. An Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant who performs some of the same functions as a physician. The annual Physician Leadership Award was given to Yaohong Tan, M.D., of Sparrow Medical Group Pathology.

Four longtime doctors and a physician assistant who have made a mark in improving the community’s healthcare were also inducted into the Sparrow Hall of Fame during the event Saturday. Inductees can be nominated by colleagues or members of the community.

This year’s inductees include:

  • Joel Cohn, M.D., Sparrow TCI: One of the most prominent cardiologists in the area, Dr. Cohn has been a leader at Sparrow and in mentoring up-and-coming physicians.
  • Shirin Doshi, D.O., Sparrow Family Health Center – Central: Dr. Doshi is a respected and sought-after leader in case management and other areas. 
  • Subhash Gupta, M. D., Anesthesia and Pain Management Consultants: Dr. Gupta has worked in pain management and anesthesia for many years, treating countless patients. 
  • Kevin J. Liu, D. O., L.O. Eye Care: Dr. Liu has spent years helping patients through their ophthalmologic emergencies.

Pamela Young, PA-C, Sparrow Hospital Trauma Center: Young, a Physician Assistant, has over 30 years of experience in caring for trauma patients and a lifetime of service as a specialist in the military.
