Physicians Health Plan awards scholarships to local students

Ten high school students from Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Ionia and Shiawassee counties who are interested in pursuing careers in health care have been awarded college scholarships by Physicians Health Plan (PHP).

The students received 2012 PHP FamilyCare Healthy Future Scholarships after writing essays about why they are passionate about their career paths and/or how they believe they can make a difference.

The students, who aspire to be doctors, nurses, technicians or administrators, were honored at a recent PHP board meeting.

Dozens of applicants were also judged based on scholastic records and teacher recommendations.

First place winners will each receive $1,000 scholarships from PHP, while those with second place prizes receive $500.

First place winners are:

  • Stephanie Archambeau, Ingham County
  • Allison Jegla, Ionia County
  • Allison Middleton, Shiawassee County

Second place winners are:

  • Rachel Rick, Clinton County
  • Katherine Hart, Eaton County
  • Lea Schafer, Ingham County
  • Tarah Beaudry, Ionia County
  • Amanda Korcal, Shiawassee County
