Rehab Caregiver “Pays-it-Forward,” earns Spotlight honor

Sara Gordon, Outpatient Physical Therapist Assistant

Sara Gordon greets every Patient with a wonderful smile and demonstrates true caring for them throughout their course of care … and beyond.

Gordon, an Outpatient Physical Therapist Assistant, has been with Sparrow for over 10 years, four at the Williamston location. She was nominated for Sparrow’s Caregiver Spotlight, honoring those who go above and beyond in providing extraordinary care, in part because of her role in establishing a “Pay-it-Forward” fund at her office.

The fund is supported by Caregiver donations instead of gift exchanges on birthdays and holidays. The office has helped to buy gas cards for Patients who had cancelled appointments because they couldn’t afford to drive, pulleys for a Patient to continue their therapy at home, and a trampoline for an autistic pediatric Patient who experienced a breakthrough when using one in therapy.

According to her nominator, Sara is the glue that holds the office together. For Sara, it’s all about being part of a smaller community where she often cares for multiple members of a family. “Being able to see the Patients we care for get better, to know that we’re giving them treatment options that help them now and long term instead of just medicine to mask the pain, is very rewarding.”
