Hovita Smith, RN, a Sparrow St. Lawrence Outpatient Surgery nurse, goes above and beyond to make sure her patients feel comfortable before and after surgery.
“She is truly dedicated to her patients and St. Lawrence,” said Sparrow St. Lawrence Outpatient Surgery Department Manager Mary Pride, RN, BSN. “She has a kind heart and is always willing to meet the patients’, physicians’ and her coworkers’ needs.”
A nurse for 51 years, 47 at the St. Lawrence Campus, Hovita considers Sparrow her home.
“I love what I do,” she says.
Caring for patients comes naturally to Hovita, having grown up with a mother dedicated to helping others.
“I don’t feel that I go above and beyond,” says Hovita. “I’m just there to take care of the patient and do the best that I can. My reward is seeing them be comfortable and well cared for. And they are.”
Hovita always makes patients her first priority. That’s one reason why she is this month’s Caregiver Spotlight.
